Dear Parents and Guardians:
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Erin Hogshead and I will by your child’s 10th grade English teacher. I will be working hard this year to ensure that your child improves in his or her reading, writing, and presentation skills; however, most importantly I will be working hard to ensure that he or she is prepared for their junior year.
I recently moved to South Korea from Guatemala where I taught at an international school for the past three years. Before that I taught in Brooklyn, New York. I have my Masters in English from East State Tennessee University and my B.A. degree in English, Secondary Education, and Psychology from Milligan College. I am always taking classes and doing professional development to stay sharp in my profession.
To be prepared for my class I would like the students to have the following materials :
Required materials:
· Language of Literature (The school provides this book and they need to bring it daily)
· 2 3-ring binders and sufficient paper (1 binder will stay in the classroom and needs dividers the other binder will be brought to class daily to help the students organize their notes and handouts.
· At least one black or blue pen (that will be used for journals, drafts, quizzes, and tests).
· At least one colored pen or pencil (that will be used for revision, editing, dialoging, and marking quizzes).
Suggested:
Laptop and USB
Colored pencils, scissors, tape, and glue stick (occasionally students will be asked to bring in these materials for class work)
I look forward to working with your children and meeting you in person. If you have any further questions please contact me at hogsheade@siskorea.org.
Sincerely,
Ms. Erin Hogshead
